IGUANA DEATH CULT (Rotterdam NL, Greenway)
Dienstag, 9. Juni 2026
Bumann & Sohn, Köln
Einlass 19:00, Beginn 20:00
With their latest iteration, Iguana Death Cult reflect on personal stories of hardship and doubt while keeping their gaze fixed on the burning world around them.
Guitars, percussion, synths, and a heavy dose of soul-searching define this renewed era of the Rotterdam band. Following a personnel shift, Iguana Death Cult emerged with a powerful new lineup, including virtuoso drummer Uri Rennert, previously of Häxxan and Brian Jonestown Massacre. This new chapter channels the band’s early punk and garage roots while feeling unmistakably grounded in the present. Razor-sharp, highly rhythmic riffs from Tobias Opschoor collide with Rennert’s relentless drumming, anchored by Jimmy de Kok’s effortlessly cool percussion and synth work. Frontman Jeroen Reek’s hefty yet heartfelt vocals guide the listener through despair, anger, and eventual solace.
Formed in 2014 as a group of friends driven by a love of rock and roll, Iguana Death Cult have covered serious ground over the past decade. The band has toured extensively, shared stages with OSEES and Frankie and the Witch Fingers, supported Jack White, and appeared at SXSW, Levitation Festival, and Desert Daze, alongside multiple successful US tours.
Their new album Guns Out, released via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society, marks a moment of deep self-reflection on several levels. Sonically, the band breaks from the more indie-leaning art-punk-funk of their previous album Echo Palace (Innovative Leisure, 2023), returning to a raw, punchy garage rock sound. Lyrically and thematically, the record confronts escapism, the toll it takes, and the process of creative renewal. Even the songwriting reflects this reset, embracing a faster, more spontaneous approach.
Tough and rigid on the surface yet soft and contemplative underneath, Guns Out captures a band coming to terms with its own evolution and its place in an increasingly turbulent world.
